Staff of Staff Support Battalion
The battalion is responsible for executing support to Headquarters 1(GE/NL) Corps and its sister battalion, the Communications and Information Systems Battalion (CISBn). The commander of the Staff Support Battalion is supported and advised by a staff consisting of 5 staff sections:
- Section 1: Personnel
- Section 2: Intelligence
- Section 3: Operations
- Section 4: Logistics
- Section 6: Signals
Section 1: Personnel (S1)
The S1 section covers all personnel affairs related to deployment and exercises. It is responsible for personnel welfare, in-processing and out-processing and other personnel related affairs. The German S1 has additional German national tasks like personnel counselling, training matters, personnel evaluation and recruitment and selection procedures.
Section 2: Intelligence (S2)
They are responsible for all security and intelligence matters within StSptBn. Therefore they are the point of contact for both Germany and Netherlands military counter-intelligence services. S2 section is the infrastructure point of contact within StSptBn. Third main task within S2 section is the responsibility for Netherlands chemical/biological/radiological/nuclear countermeasures and training within StSptBn.
Section 3: Training & Operations (S3)
The S3 section is responsible for the operations room, which is the single point of communication for external counterparts of the battalion. Here the request and orders from HQ 1(GE/NL) Corps and others are assessed and rewritten to battalion orders. Then after approval of the battalion commander these orders are valid and the companies can start to execute. S3 sections other main focus is executing military training for the HQ 1 (GE/NL) Corps and coordinating and executing military training for the Staff Support Battalion itself. They coordinate and execute real life support to all parts of the HQ 1(GE/NL) Corps for exercises and during missions. Last but not least, S3 section is responsible for the force protection of HQ 1(GE/NL) Corps, StSptBn and parts of CISBn in exercises and during mission.
Section 4: Logistics (S4)
The S4 is responsible for the availability of the required equipment for HQ 1 (GE/NL) Corps and the StSptBn (e.g. vehicles, containers, transportation means). Next to that the S4 Technical Officer, monitors the readiness of the materiel and organizes the maintenance of the equipment of HQ 1 (GE/NL) Corps to maintain the high level of readiness. The availability of supplies (food, water, fuel, ammunition etc.) is a task of S4. Further more, S4 section is responsible for property accounting of all materiel of HQ 1 (GE/NL) Corps and StSptBn. The required civil materiel and services for StSptBn is acquired by the 2 contractors working within S4 section.
Section 6: Signals (S6)
The main task of the S6 section is to organize and execute the information management for the StSptBn. This makes them responsible for: post, archiving and the mail system. Furthermore, they act as a helpdesk for StSptBn and they monitor the use of field radios within the StSptBn. The second main task of S6 section is the build up and organization of command post(s) of StSptBn during exercises and missions.
